Going Through a Little Rough Water
But that doesn’t bother my son Travis and I…especially when we’re FISHING!!!
Despite rough seas and stormy weather, our recent four-day trip to Hippa Lodge on the rugged northwest coast of British Columbia’s Haida Gwaii was a real memory-maker. The fishing was unbelievable and it looks like the predictions of a record year for big Chinook salmon are accurate. In fact, one of the guests in our group landed a 46-pounder the day we arrived (June 1), and I was lucky enough to hook a 30-pounder just two days later (after releasing literally dozens of smaller salmon, all over 20 pounds).
Hippa Lodge is owned and operated by West Coast Resorts (www.westcoastresorts.com) and let me tell you, these folks know what they’re doing. In fact, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better operator anywhere. The lodge can accommodate a maximum of 36 guests, and the food, lodging, staff, guides, boats and gear are all first class.
This was my third trip to Hippa, and I can’t wait to go back. But right now, I need to go shopping for a bigger deep freezer.
